Kyle's 3rd birthday cake

An aeroplane cake!

An aeroplane shaped birthday cake for my eldest son's 3rd birthday. I modeled the shape after a DeHaviland Vampire, mostly because of the aircraft's very basic shape. The canopy is part of a blister pack from a PC mouse! (the only inedible part of the cake)

The colour scheme started out as the old South African Air Force colours, substituting red for the standard orange but actually ended up looking quite Russian in the end, not intentional but pretty cool anyway.

For those interested, the cake is a sponge cake made from my great grandmother's recipe! The icing is regular butter icing and the colours where skillfully mixed from Red, Blue and yellow food dye by my mother, who is also a designer! Thanks mom :)
