Rapid Prototype

Soccer City

I have quite a bit of experience with rapid prototyping. I was fortunate enough to work at a place where I had my own personal Dimension FDM machine for whatever I wanted. Unfortunately , I was not a confident enough CAD operator to create the shapes that a wanted to grow (see flowing curves of a Speedster wing mirror) so I figured out ways of exporting 3DS to STL and then to the machine.

As luck would have it one of my first freelance jobs involved converting a Visual 3D model created for animations and flythroughs into a ‘solid’ model so that it could then be grown on a 3D printer. The best part about his 3D printer though is that is is able to see the mapping information is a 3DS file or the like and because of the printing process it is able to produce physical parts with

more colour detail than you could generate if you were to have sat there with a very small paint brush and a magnifying glass for many days! Quite incredible!
